3 hot tips for quickly creating high quality videos with your iPhone
To get the best out of your iPhone, you need to be creative. But that doesn’t mean spending vast amounts of money. Read on and watch the excellent video below for tips on how to create stunning videos using your iPhone and little more!
Essential equipment for making videos
- Use a tripod mount
Does your hand shake like a gospel singer’s fist when recording? Don’t leave getting steady shots down to luck (unless you’re going for a shaky effect specifically), using a tripod will make your shots much easier to frame and give it a professional continuously steady look. I currently use the PEMOTech tripod which is about £15 ($18) and it serves me well! - Invest in an external microphone
The onboard mic on the iPhone isn’t bad, but it’s definitely not the best! Sound is really important in filmmaking so a good mic will make all the difference. If you’re on a budget, I’ve been told this Blusmart Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone for iPhone & Android is decent for recording your voice when speaking to camera / interviews and costs around £9 ($11). The Rode Smartlav+ Lavalier mic is a step up and costs around £60 ($75), or you can go for something more pro like the Apogee MiC (which I use personally) or Rode i-XY. George Lucas is quoted as saying “sound is half the experience” and it only takes thinking about a horror or blockbuster movie without sound (or with crap sound) to get the idea of how important it really is. - Get the Video Pro Camera app!
As recommended by Entrepreneur in their video below, Video Pro Camera App is a great little app for getting the most out of your iPhone recordings. I also use this and it’s a great addition as it really gives you control over the look of your videos. Only costs $4.99 as well!
