Making your videos stand out
Anyone who makes videos knows that it can be gruelling getting all the bits to come together into a nice production. Sometimes you lack an image, other times it’s the music or a voice over. As well as image stock libraries like www.fotolia.com, I tend to head over to Fiverr when that’s the case as it lets you quickly and easily get some custom stuff for your videos.
What is Fiverr?
If you’ve never heard of Fiverr, then you’re about to enter a world of fun. If you want to make a little bit of money on the side selling products or services or need people to do things like prepare a message to send your mum on Mother’s day then Fiverr should be on your list of places to check out.
As the name suggests, people on Fiverr are offering things for $5 or more (if you purchase add-ons) and it’s full of creative and quirky people from all over the world offering all sorts of unusual services. You’ll find people that are young, old, weird or serious!
It’s an interesting place socially as well, I’ve met some great people on there through just offering a few gigs myself. For example, since a friend of mine told me I should use my voice to my benefit I decided to offer both a vintage british voice over for quirky and spoof productions as well as a clean British voice over for more pro productions.
If you’re a little bit creative, you can offer something like this and get some pennies rolling in, just look at the top sellers for inspiration like this guy who records everything as if it were a horse race. Or if you just need some assets for your own videos, then it’s also a great place to look, which leads me on to:
How to make your video more interesting
If you’re trying to sell a service or product on Fiverr, you’ll notice the pro’s make high quality impactful videos to accompany their message. If you don’t speak English very well or don’t have a ‘radio-ready’ voice, then purchasing a voice over will help you come across clearly, professionally and connect you with potential customers better.
Having some music behind that voice over is also essential in most cases. Have a listen to my Vintage British VO gig and see what I mean – just adding a little bit of music makes a world of difference, especially if it’s the right type of music. I chose an orchestral piece and modified it to sound old so it fit within the context of the ‘royal british’ / old BBC sound which has proved popular with my customers.
Then there are other things like getting a logo made, an intro animation, a company jingle or even a selection of radio-style sound effects all of which can be incorporated into your videos to make them stand out. Those kinds of things are really easy to get at on Fiverr, so I recommend you check them out.
Why don’t you sell music for a fiver?
Good question, and you’re probably wondering why we’re promoting what could be seen as a competitor site! The answer is simple, with Fiverr, the quality you get is good up to a point and the customer service you receive is limited.
There are also limits on what you should actually be able to get for $5 in an ethical world! The time, resources and expertise needed to create our music goes beyond what a $5 price tag would cover as well, so we prefer to increase the value of our music by investing in things like studio time, paying session musicians, getting our mixes and mastering professionally done and offering better customer service.
All that said, we do offer discounts and bundles from time to time, so sign up to our newsletter for a free track below if you haven’t already and we’ll let you know when we have a discount code available for you.
